Third Orchestra

SLYO 3 introduces all orchestral strings to the joys and challenges of ensemble playing through a fun repertoire. Places are awarded in order of application accompanied by teacher recommendation. Please note you can only book a place one term at a time.

Who can apply for SLYO 3:
Violin and Cello: Grade 4 – 6 level
Viola and Double Bass: Grade 3 – 5 level

Grades are a techincal indication rather than necessity. If your child’s current level makes them eligible for two orchestras please call us on 020 8613 6439 and we will be able to advise which orchestra to apply for.

Daily Structure – 9.30am – 4.30pm. Each day is split into a combination of full and sectional rehearsals, led by Richard Sizer and a team of outstanding string tutors.

Tutors – Michelle Taylor (Violin), Julia Atkinson (Violin and Viola),  Amanda Lake (Violin and Viola), Victoria Stephenson (Viola and Violin), Hannah Sloane (Cello) and Helen Neilson (Double Bass).

Third Orchestra Conductor Richard Sizer started the violin at the age of 6 after being inspired by the musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. Piano and trombone followed later and aged 11 he joined the Royal College of Music JD where he won the composition prize and led the RCM orchestra. He also led Bedfordshire County Youth Orchestra and Youth Opera Group. Since then he has worked with recording studios and film projects, Big Bands and jazz ensembles. He is currently Director of Music at Cumnor House School, Croydon where he conducts and composes for orchestras, choirs and ensembles. Recent highlights include performances at the St. Peter’s Basilica (Vatican City), Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and co-conducting the BBC singers for the English premier of Paul Mealor’s “The Farthest Shore”.
