What is JASSPA?

James Allen’s Saturday School for the Performing Arts was started at JAPS (James Allen’s Preparatory School) in 1993.  The idea was to create an opportunity for young people to experience and explore specialist music, dance and drama beyond the school curriculum giving them the chance to develop self-expression, confidence and skills in a non-competitive environment. From the beginning workshop style classes have led to fabulous performances enjoyed by friends and family. We also host South London Youth Orchestra holiday courses – intensive orchestral experiences.

Jasspa classes take place on Saturdays from 8.30am – 5pm during term time. We use the extensive facilities at James Allen’s Girls School.

Of our current pupils the majority come from schools other than JAPS/JAGS with over 80 schools being represented on our school roll.

Pupils choose their own personal combination of activities from the following:

Infant Dance and Drama for 5-6yrs
Junior and Senior Dance and Drama for 7-18yrs
One to one Instrumental Tuition for 6-18yrs and adults
Grades 3 & 5 Music Theory for instrumentalists Grade 4+
One to one Theory Tuition for pupils unable to attend our theory classes, but keen to progress with theory
Jazz Bands for adults and pupils with an interest in jazz – Grade 4-8+
